New beginnings

Well here goes, my first attempt at a blog. No doubt a huge learning curve but I guess that we all have to start somewhere.

I thought I would share a few of my recent goodies from a weekend buying trip. Buying trips are always exciting. Up at the crack of dawn. No actually let's rewind a day. Make sure the car has diesel the day before. I live in the countryside where Petrol stations are definitely not open 24/7. A trip to the cash point to withdraw the necessary wonga, lastly make sure that I set the alarm for nice and early. Although the neighbours cockerel is always in fine voice by 4 am!
An hour or so up the motorway and I arrive at my antiquing destination. Now comes the eagerness to ditch the car (praying that I do not get stuck in the mud, the car parking for these fairs is always in a blooming muddy field). Phew, the car is parked in a nice sensible spot, thanks to the marshals in the high vis jackets with walky talky in tow, who will not let you park anywhere other than where they have directed you to park.
I join the queue. Butterflies are now flitting around in my stomach because I don't want all of the treasures to be snapped up before I get to them. I eye up some of my competition stood beside me in the queue. There are the usual suspects, duckers and divers, small in stature with a slight shifty look. The country dealer, dressed in cords and tweed. The extrovert vintage gals with piled hair and bright tights, carrying a basket. The older couples who have been doing this sort of thing since the year dot, prepared with sandwiches and thermos flasks. I shall not divulge which category I fall into.
I pay the entrance fee and I am under starters orders. I try to act nonchalant and walk at a nice normal pace but as we near the first stalls the step quickens and the heart beat races. The eyes start to go in to scan mode and before you know it I am in the thick of it, shoulder to shoulder with equally eagle eyed dealers all on the hunt for the hidden gem.

Many hours later, with tired legs and an empty purse, struggling with many odd shaped bags and desperate for a good cup of tea, I wearily try and locate my car. Now where did I park it? Was it the fourth or the fifth row back...........

Enough of that nonsense here is a selection of my purchased items. They are not fine antiques but each has charm, an endearing feature or an interesting background. You see, for me, it is the story behind the object. If you would like to find out more information about any of the objects, please stop by my shop. We accept payment in GBP,USD, Euro or AusD. I hope you enjoyed this first effort at a blog.

Don't be too harsh.                                A lovely little 18th century hand coloured engraving of Louis XVI
I am sure to improve. Feel free to share your thoughts or opinions. I am a friendly lady and I hope to post once a week. I am a busy friendly lady though, so I can't promise.  Family and a small business leave little time.
